Essential Aquarium Décor and Accessories
Once you have purchased the perfect tank, filtration accessories and a list of fish you would love to add to the tank, the only thing left is the decorations. However, some people get so excited that they end up filling up the tank with an assortment of decorations they find in the pet store. To avoid such incidents, ensure that you have the following essential decorations:
Substrates: It all depends on whether you want to achieve a colorful or natural look. Substrates to choose from include Sand, glass pebbles, small stones or gravel. The type of substrate also depends on the type of fish; for instance, a sandy bottom will be good for eels or knife fish. The substrate should also be cleaned before placing it in the tank.
Plants: Whether the plants are fake or real, they give the tank a natural feel. Fake plants are colorful and easier to maintain than real ones. Real plants on the other hand improve the water quality and help maintain a stable PH level.
Fake rocks, corals and sunken ships: They add a natural look but they require a larger space.
It is necessary to carefully assess the items you place in the aquarium for the safety of the fish.
